A-Team Reviews

Thanks again to everyone who came out to see The A-Team and enjoyed some Dairy Queen afterwards. The theatre was pretty jam-packed thanks to the $5.99 ticket price. It was a great movie with great treats and good company.

So what did our reviewers think?
  • Tammy P: I didn't want to see it but now I am glad I did and I met some great people.
  • Mary M: I couldn't stop laughing and I'm so jealous of Face [because he got to kiss Jessica Biel]. Dammmmmm.
  • Curtis L: If you got boredom and you where to see it, you should probably to ... The A-Team! The casting was well done, the action was epic and there were plenty of laughs. I found myself cheering and applauding with the rest of the audience. 9/10
  • Mary J: Hilarious movie! Was expecting an action flick and got a comedy/action flick - doubly impressed. ....Mmmmm blizzard - great people too! Mmm people.
  • Sarah O: Movie was terrific! Funny and thoughts - a perfect rest from work. The DQ treat really hit the spot and the company was certainly enjoyable! :)
  • Les C: I laughed! I covered my eyes! I cheered them on! A plethora of emotion; totally cool.
  • Curtis C: There was SOoooooooooooooooooooooooo much action. Down with bad reviews, this one was on the up and up! Hope they make a sequel.
  • Melannie B: Awesome, action-packed with unbelievable stunts and it did well by the original. Plus, oh, if I could blow stuff up like they can. Two thumbs up.
  • Mark M: Everything old is new again! When I first heard that this film was being made, I wondered if this was going to kill the TV/redo genre - but I was wrong! When you put together a smart and sexy cast along with a not-too-complicated story (sticking to the original premise) you have a 'plan' and a recipe for success! On the production side - things blow up! A few nods to today's pop culture from this retro dinosaur and produced by one of the Scott brothers, what else can be said? Ridley - hang up the tights; Tony - get this team back in action.
What's next? Our July outing date is TBA. Keeping to tradition the movie outing would be on July 20th would be smack-dab in the middle of Halifax Pride and I know that's a busy time. I'll make an announcement about our next outing soon.

Splice the Killers to the Greek Team

Hey moviegoers and film fans! It's already June; 2010 is flying by. Our June movie outing will be Tuesday, June 15th and we've got four movies to choose from.

But first, a note about our options: There are some movies coming out in the next two weeks that didn't make the cut. Based on our past voting, I didn't think there was much chance we'd vote to see them. The movies that didn't make the cut? Harry Brown, Marmaduke and the Karate Kid.

So what did make the cut?
  • Get Him to the Greek
  • Killers
  • Splice
  • The A-Team
Read on to learn more about each movie and cast your vote!

Get Him to the Greek
When it opens: June 4th
What it's about: Aaron Greenberg gets things done. The ambitious 23-year-old has exaggerated his way into a dream job just in time for a career-making assignment. His mission: Fly to London and escort a rock god to L.A.'s Greek Theatre for the first-stop on a $100-million tour. His warning: Turn your back on him at your own peril. British rocker Aldous Snow is both a brilliant musician and walking sex. Weary of yes men and piles of money, the former front man is searching for the meaning of life. He may have to coax, lie to, enable and party with Aldous, but Aaron will get him to the Greek.

It turns out Spencer never bothered to tell Jen he's also an international super-spy, and now Jen's perfect world has been turned upside down. Faced with the fact that her husband is a hit man, Jen is determined to discover what other secrets Spencer might be keeping.

Splice
When it opens: June 4th
What it's about: Clive and Elsa are a pair of brilliant scientists whose cutting-edge experiments in genetic engineering make them superstars in their field. As devoted to their careers as they are to one another, they start conducting unauthorized experiments with new animal species that show great promise. Drunk with their god-like powers, they introduce human DNA into one of their creations, producing a creature that is greater than the sum of its parts: a rapidly developing animal/human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder. While this female creature inspires maternal feelings in Elsa, she evokes something far-from-paternal in Clive, something that poses a threat to them all. Then, when this seemingly perfect organism makes a final, shocking metamorphosis, it is mankind itself that is threatened.
